How to Use a Windows Keyboard on Your Mac or MacBook — Some of us may have the weird experience when using macOS along with the default Windows keyboard. As the keyboard will not work well if you use regular shortcuts like what you do in the real MacBook keyboard.

Replace the ‘Alt’ and ‘Win’ keycaps on your keyboard with ‘option’ and ‘command’ keycaps.
If you are using mechanical keyboard, you are so lucky, because it will be so easy for you to modify and to replace it. You just need to unplug the keyboard and then unscrew those keycaps. After that replace it with the ‘option’ and ‘command’ keycaps.
Change your MacBook Keyboard Settings.
- After you replace the ‘Alt’ and ‘Win’ with ‘option’ and ‘command’ keycaps, change your MacBook Keyboard Settings.
- Click the Apple icon button on the top left corner of your screen, then choose System Preferences.
- Click the Keyboard option there.
- Find Modifier Keys button and click it.
- Now, on the popup, change the Option key to Command, and change the Command key to Option.
- After that click OK.
As the Command key on your Mac can do a lot of things, of course it is better to place it near the spacebar. The modified layout above hopefully will make you feel comfortable in using macOS keyboard shortcuts on the Windows keyboard.
