Amethyst is a new addition to the game of Minecraft (added in the 1.17 update) that allows the player to make a few new items, including a spyglass, a brand-new item that enables the player to zoom in on distant objects without installing any mods. Of course, the question is, where do you find this new material, and once you do, what exactly can you do with it?
What is Minecraft?
In the video game Minecraft, players build and destroy different sorts of blocks in three-dimensional environments. There are two primary game modes: Survival and Creative. Players in Survival are required to procure their building materials and food. They can also interact with moving creatures or mobs that resemble blocks. (Some of the deadly ones include zombies and creepers.) Players in Creative receive materials and don’t need to eat to survive. They are also instantly capable of breaking any type of block.
Who is Minecraft Developer?
Mojang Studios created the sandbox video game Minecraft. Markus “Notch” Persson used the Java programming language to construct the game. It was first made public in May 2009 after undergoing numerous early private testing iterations. It was completely released in November 2011 after Notch stepped down and Jens “Jeb” Bergensten took over development. With over 238 million copies sold and almost 140 million monthly active users as of 2021, Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time. It has since been adapted to several other platforms.
In Minecraft, users can locate and extract raw materials, make tools and things, and construct buildings, earthworks, and rudimentary machinery in a blocky randomly generated 3D world with nearly unlimited topography. Players can cooperate with or compete with other players in the same globe depending on the game style they are playing. They can also combat hostile mobs. There are several game modes, including a survival mode (where players must gather resources to construct in the world and keep themselves healthy) and a creative mode (where players have unlimited resources and access to flight). Many user-generated contents are also available, adding additional game mechanics and opportunities. Examples include mods, servers, skins, texture packs, and custom maps.
Why Find and Utilize Amethyst in Minecraft?
Minecraft amethyst is a crystalline material with different ‘growth’ stages and blocks associated with it, which can be a little confusing at first. Amethyst Shards can be used to make the following items in addition to being a fashionable new building material:
- Spyglass: A Spyglass is made by placing one Amethyst Shard on top of two Copper Ingots. Spyglasses can be used to magnify distant objects.
- Tinted Glass: One block of glass with an Amethyst Shard above, below, and on either side will yield two Tinted Glass blocks. Tinted glass is a building material that completely blocks out all light (but you can still see through it). It cannot suffocate mobs, but it can be repaired and reused.
- Amethyst Block: As previously stated, this is purely decorative. Using four Amethyst Shards, you can make a Block of Amethyst.
How To Find and Utilize Amethyst in Minecraft
Here are the steps of How To Find and Utilize Amethyst in Minecraft for you to read and comprehend. Read the explanation carefully.
Finding Amethyst
The only place to find amethyst in Minecraft is inside a geode in the overworld dimension of your Minecraft world. These geodes will spawn in any biome’s underground portion, as well as in some oceans at or below level 70. (level 64 is sea level for reference). If you’re playing in an old world, you’ll have to find a new chunk generation area to gain access to geodes and other new content from the 1.17 update, as they only appear in the world during the initial chunk generation.
Traveling along a beach and looking for a round structure of smooth basalt sticking up out of the sand is one of the simplest ways to find a geode. The dark color of the basalt contrasts sharply with the light-colored sand, making them easy to identify even from a distance.
You could also go for a swim in an ocean and look for them peeking out of the ocean floor, as well as underwater hills and ravines. They’re a little more challenging to spot this way, but their smooth round structure gives them away, especially once the initial darkness of underwater fades.
Once You’ve Found a Geode
If you find a geode, there’s a good chance (95% of the time) that it has a crack in its exterior through which you can enter. If there is no crack or it is not exposed in the direction you want to enter, you will have to mine your way in to get to the amethyst. Use a pickaxe to ensure that what you mine drops as a block rather than simply breaking. The top layer is smooth basalt, a cool new dark-colored block that should add a little extra detail to those moody builds.
Calcite, a new light-colored block found only inside geodes and in strips in the stony peaks biome, is just inside the basalt. This block is currently purely decorative, but Minecraft is constantly evolving, and you never know when blocks like this will be given a new purpose. Furthermore, because it lacks an infinite generation mechanic, calcite is a finite material in the game, making it a valuable commodity.
Finally, inside the calcite, you’ll find amethyst blocks and budding amethyst, as well as amethyst buds and clusters scattered across the various surfaces. It will not harm you to mine all of the amethyst blocks, amethyst buds, and amethyst clusters you find inside the geode. If you don’t use a silk touch pick on the amethyst buds, they won’t drop anything when broken.
However, if you want a sustainable source of amethyst crystals for decoration or tinted glass, you should leave the budding amethyst blocks alone. These blocks will generate new amethyst crystals over time, growing larger and larger until they reach their full potential, at which point you can grab them and craft them into blocks or other items.
Unfortunately, the budding amethyst cannot be moved in survival, even with the Silk Touch enchantment or by pushing it with a piston, so hopefully, you can find a geode near where you’ve set up camp in your Minecraft world.
